Description

Berytinus crassipes is a bug inthe stilt bug family (Berytidae). The bugs are 4.3 to 5.8 millimeters long. Characteristic of representatives of the genus Berytinus, they have a short second antennal segment, which is shorter than the club on the first segment. They also have short femora on the hind legs that do not reach the top of the corium of the hemielytra. In Berytinus crassipes the club on the first antennal segment is black and the thighs have black tips. In addition, the head and pronotum are about the same length. The species is distributed from the northern edge of the Mediterranean Sea to southern Scandinavia and the southern British Isles and east to Siberia and Central Asia. The species is widespread in Central Europe, but not common. In the UK, the species is locally distributed in large parts of England and Wales, but rarer in the north. Dry, often sandy habitats with loose vegetation are settled.
