(Coelosis biloba)

Coelosis biloba is a beetle that belongs to the group of horn beetles in the family Scarabaeidae. A large (30-40 millimeters), dark-colored horn beetle, the body shape is quite wide. As usual with horn beetles, there is a big difference between the sexes, the males are larger and have a horn on the head and a large hollow in front of the pronotum, above this with two wide, rounded projections. Pronotum has clear, fish shell-like microsculpture on the sides, coverts fine rows of dots. The female lacks horns and protrusions on the thorax, body shape oval. The species is widespread throughout the Neotropical ecosystem, from Mexico in the north to Chile in the south. The adult beetles are nocturnal and like to come to light. Otherwise, little is known about their biology. Coelosis is a genus of beetles. Coelosis belongs to the family Dynastidae.
