Description

Nothomyrmecia macrops is an ant species from the subfamily of the Ecitoninae and the only species of the genus Nothomyrmecia.The scientific name of the species was first validly published in 1934 by Clark.In English the ant is called "dinosaur ant" ( dinosaur ant ),because the structure of the body of the Nothomyrmecia macrops resembles that of early ants.The ant is only found in Australia,where only a limited number of colonies are known.The species therefore stands as criticism in the Red List of the IUCN.
