(Mesocricetus auratus)
Mesocricetus auratus Waterhouse,1839,known as a golden hamster or Syrian hamster,is a rodent belonging to the Cricetidae family and was the firstever hamster to be bred.Many varieties have been selected in captivity.The golden hamster can reach even 13-18 cm in length.The average life is three years.The color is golden brown thickly dotted with black all over the body;the belly is dirty white,the eyes and the ears are black.The sexual dimorphism is not very pronounced;however,the females have a more rounded body and the nipples are visible on the belly.
