Description

Hipposideros scutinares is a bat from the genus Hipposideros that occurs in the middle of Laos and Vietnam.Together with H.lylei and H.pratti,this species belongs to the H.pratti group.The generic name is derived from the Latin words scutum (shield) and nares (nostrils) and thus means "nose nose",which refers to the shape of the nose leaf.Hipposideros scutinares is a large leaf-nose bat with large ears.The back coat is brownish,the belly coat red-brown.The shape of the nose leaf differs from that of other species.For echolocation a frequency of over 63 kHz is used.The forearm length is 77.9 to 82.7 mm,the tail length 50.4 to 59.3 mm,the ear length 27.6 to 29.4 mm,the hindfoot length 15.0 to 18.8 mm,the skull length 30.0 to 31.3 mm and the width of the nose blade 9.7 to 10.3 mm.
