Description

Lepilemur ankaranensis is a mammal from the family of the weasel lemurs (Lepilemuridae). The scientific name of the species was first validly published by Rumpler & Albignac in 1975.Measure up to 53 cm in length,of which just under half are attributed to the tail, for a total weight of about 750 g: these measures make it one of the smallest lepilemuridi. The hair is gray in the dorsal area, with darker areas on the shoulders and back: the ventral area is whitish, while the tip of the tail and the nape are brownish-gray.Often on the shoulders, knees and forehead there are red-rust shades. The eyes are medium-large,round and hazel- colored : the head is small and rounded with hairy and triangular ears also small, while the back of the body is larger than the front due to the voluminous bowel(adapted to a herbivorous diet based on leaves),giving the animal at rest the curious aspect of a provolone form.
