Description

Lepilemur petteri,Lemur jumper of Petter,is a species of primate mammal of the family Lepilemuridae.Like all lemurs it is endemic to the island of Madagascar and is distributed to the southwest of the island,in the Beza-Mahafaly region,between the Onilahy and Linta rivers.It weighs 630 grams and its body measures 23 cm and tail 24.It is brown to grayish brown on the back and whitish gray on the belly.The face is gray with lighter spots around the eyes and on the chin.The ears are lined with black.Its habitat is the xerophytic scrub,as well as gallery forests.Of arboreal and nocturnal habits,it spends half of the night resting or grooming,a third feeding and 10% moving.It moves less and rests more in the cold and dry season.Social relationships,including vocalizations,only occupy 5% of night activity.It usually moves through the treetops,a little lower if there is a full moon.It feeds on leaves.Its status on the IUCN Red List is " Vulnerable ".
