Perryena leucometopon

(Perryena leucometopon)

Description

Perryena leucometopon, the Whitenose pigfish, is a scorpaeniform fish endemic to the Pacific Ocean around Australia where it is found on coral reefs. This species grows to a length of 16 centimetres (6.3 in) TL. This species is the only known member of its genus and in 2013 was split from the family Congiopodidae into its own family. A recent study placed the waspfishes into an expanded stonefish clade (Synanceiidae) because all of these fish have a lachrymal saber that can project a switch-blade-like mechanism out from underneath their eye .
