Description

The black or black concrete (Camponotus morosus) is a species of ant of the Formicinae 1 subfamily, typical of the sclerophyllous scrub of central Chile. 234 In some cases it has been found living in mixed nests with Solenopsis gayi. This species has a nectivorous (nectar), frugivorous (fruit) and scavenger (dead insects) diet, making use of available resources opportunistically. The sizes of the queens vary between 13mm to 15mm, soldiers 9mm to 14mm, males 9mm to 12mm and workers 5mm to 9mm. Its ideal humidity level is between 40% and 60% for a good development. The estimated time of development of an egg is 1-4 months. A queen can live up to 20 years, nurses (first workers) 5 months, workers 1 year/1 year and a half, soldiers 2 years.
