Description

Gredos snapdragon, Antirrhinum grosii is a species of the Plantaginaceae family. Perennial herb with a woody, glandular-pubescent strain. Stems up to 40 (-50) cm, more or less flat. Leaves ovate, obtuse, opposite at the bottom and alternate at the top, up to 35 x 20 mm, with short petioles. Flowers arranged in elongated clusters; calyx with 5 ovate-lanceolate sepals, 6-8 mm; white corolla, with reddish nerves in the throat, 30-35 mm long. Capsule shaped fruit that opens into 2 apical pores. It blooms from June to August. Quite frequent on the high walls of the central and western massifs of Gredos. It is an endemic rock species exclusive to the Sierra de Gredos, which is perhaps its most emblematic plant.
