(Blechnum chordatum)
A large, evergreen fern with a shortly creeping rhizome which eventually forms a small trunk. It has been found in hedgerows, ditches, by streams and on rocky roadsides. It also occurs as a garden relic. Reproduction is by spores and vegetative spread. Lowland.B. cordatum is occasionally grown in gardens and was first recorded in the wild from a malodorous ditch on St. Mary`s, Isles of Scilly, in 1953. It is now more frequently recorded.
