This species has the following characteristics 1 : It has a long rhizome tracing, covered with brown to blackish hairs and without roots; The fronds are well spaced, from two to six centimeters long and nearly the same dimensions for their width; The limb is entire, almost circular to spatulate, irregularly and slightly lobed The foundations, with a catadromous ribbing, are abundantly streaked with false veins parallel to the true veins without false submarginal ribs; The sores, sometimes numerous on the fertile fronds, are found at the apex of the limbus and are partially or wholly inserted there; The industry is slightly bilabiated (exception in the genus); The columella can be the size of the industry or very widely exserted. Like all species of the genus, Didymoglossum membranaceum has 34 pairs of chromosomes
